Oak Alley Plantation's Annual Christmas Bonfire Party!
7pm - Midnight
December 6, 2014
This year marks the 39th anniversary of this joyous event at Oak Alley.
This event celebrates a traditional plantation Christmas with dining, dancing, and a spectacular bonfire on the levee that guests describe simply as "magnificent!"
The bonfire party is one of our major fundraisers for the non-profit Foundation. All proceeds from ticket sales go to the preservation of the mansion and historic grounds. It’s a great opportunity for the community to celebrate the Season at one of the most breathtaking locations in the South while supporting this Educational Trust.
As you arrive and walk the illuminated path, docents in period clothing greet guests as they walk through the historic mansion, adorned with decorations reminiscent of Creole Christmases past. On the terrace, a brass quintet welcomes arriving guests.
Oak Alley Plantation Restaurant’s Executive Chef Tony Reymundo and professional catering staff will be serving hors d'oeuvres on silver trays. Food stations and open premium bars are set in and around the mansion. This event is held in an open house format with a main buffet set in the formal dining room and chef style stations set around the veranda. Tables and chairs are set on and around the terrace located in front of the mansion.
The indisputable highlight of the evening is the lighting of the bonfire on the levee. A local tradition dating long before the levees were built, bonfires guided family and friends coming off the river as they looked for the inlet or slip belonging to their loved-one's home. Local lore also tells of additional bonfires lit on Christmas Eve to help guide Papa Noel. At 8pm the brass quintet will lead the traditional parade up the illuminated alley to the levee for the lighting of the bonfire and caroling right on the banks of the Mississippi River.
Back to the mansion for dancing to the band The Alley Cats as we round out a spectacular evening of Yuletide joy. Please note that the bars will close at 11pm and soft drinks, coffee, hot chocolate and beignets are served until midnight.
One of the most popular events of the season, ticket reservations accepted 1st Tuesday of September. Dress code is festive holiday attire or semi-dressy, remember if it is cold to please dress appropriately as this event is held outside (wear your thermals and the right shoes to dance in).
Tickets are $130.00 per person, inclusive. For more information and to purchase tickets call 800-44ALLEY or 225-265-2151. Tickets will not be mailed, reservations will be kept at will call at the back door of the Mansion and guests will be checked in upon arrival.
Make your reservations early as this event is sure to sell out.
