USA Today's 10 Best: Historic Southern plantations
USA Today newspaper named Oak Alley Plantation as one of the top 10 historic Southern plantations in the United States. We are so honored to be included and how great is it that out of ten, six plantations are located in Louisiana with five located on the Great River Road between New Orleans & Baton Rouge. That speaks volumes about the rich culture and traditions this great state has to offer to our visitors.
"Visitors looking to gain a deeper appreciation of the South's long and varied history should make a point to experience one of the region's many well-maintained plantations. These architectural gems provide a peek into bygone days, providing the public with a genteel slice of the old Southern ways while also educating about the region's complicated past. Here are 10 of the South's most memorable plantations."
The article mentioned several interesting aspects of our historic property, and highlighted the "breathtaking path created by a double row of live oaks" and "the plantation's permanent educational exhibit, 'Slavery at Oak Alley,' which is spread across six reconstructed slave quarters."
