"Slavery at Oak Alley" Presentation at Ascension Parish Library

History Department Shares with the Community
On February 16th, the Ascension Parish Library hosted Oak Alley's Research and Interpretation Department and their presentation "Slavery at Oak Alley".

As part of our educational programing, Vince Yardas and Laura Kilcer Van Huss shared a presentation with the Ascension Parish community.  The discussion included the impact on slavery and the enslaved populations of the River Region and how those topics are interpreted at Oak Alley today.

Last year, Oak Alley opened six exhibit buildings to help share a detailed history of the 220 people who were enslaved at Oak Alley over its time as a slave-holding plantation.  Mr. Yardas and Ms. Van Huss shared details about this new exhibit and how it aids in telling the individual stories in preserving the history of those who were once enslaved here.
