Oak Alley Assists with Literacy Day in St. James Parish
Oak Alley was pleased to work with the young learners at Sixth Ward Elementary School, for their annual Literacy Day.
One of our historical interpreters, Bob, portrayed a 1700s-era plantation owner, and shared history about our 300-year-old oaks, sugar cane farming, slavery, and Creole culture and lifestyle.
We met with over 100 children and their teachers, sharing stories, crossword puzzles, coloring pages and history literature with them.
We are extremely grateful to Sixth Ward Elementary School for offering the opportunity for us to participate in this important event.
